St Francis Cathedral Xavier’s Cathedral
At the time of the Cathedral’s construction (1869-1901) tessellated tile flooring was not installed due to costs. In 1996 Commercial Ceramics carried out the tiling as it was originally designed. Old, unstable concrete flooring was replaced in patches with flexible expansion areas built to minimise cracking. Tessellated tiling was meticulously installed in small stages to minimise disturbance to regular Cathedral business.
